Nature Stone® Flooring, Frequently Asked Questions

Is Nature Stone® a green friendly product?
Yes, Nature Stone® practices environmental responsibility according to sustainability concepts developed by the United States Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Program.
Is Nature Stone® VOC compliant?
Yes. Nature Stone® is comprised of 100% solids epoxy and natural quarry stone. There are no hazardous solvents in the formulation.
Does Nature Stone® inhibit the growth of mold and mildew?
Yes. Nature Stone® incorporates an anti-microbial agent to prohibit the growth of mold and safeguard indoor air quality.
Can Nature Stone® be used over broken-up concrete?
The simple answer is no. Minor cracking, surface deterioration and uneven concrete are no problem for Nature Stone®. However, Nature Stone® should not be used in lieu of replacing severely damaged, shifting, and heaving concrete and/or concrete that is structurally unsound.

Our Nature Stone® representatives can determine if your concrete is suitable for a Nature Stone® application when he or she physically inspects your area. This is another reason why we do not attempt to price Nature Stone® before seeing the area of interest.
Why is Nature Stone® superior to competitors’ low-cost stone/epoxy flooring?
Have you ever made rice krispies treats? What would happen if you reduced the amount of marshmallows and increased the amount of cereal to stretch the batch? The answer is simple; the dessert would not bond together properly and fall apart. Many competitors try to cut costs by doing the exact same thing…reducing the amount of epoxy (usually a generic epoxy) and stretching the batch by adding extra stones for more coverage. This result drastically reduces material costs at the expense of product integrity. This is a sure recipe for disaster. The primary cost, strength and performance of the floor are in direct relationship to the amount and quality of the epoxy used. The epoxy holds the floor together...not the stone. With Nature Stone® you always get the proper epoxy-to-stone mix ratio for a successful, long-lasting and beautiful floor.
How long will it take to install?
Most jobs can be installed in just one day with a follow-up topcoat applied within 48 hours. For larger jobs, allow an extra day or two. Nature Stone® will also accommodate evening and weekend installations.
How do I clean Nature Stone®?
Nature Stone® can be cleaned with a damp mop or a wet-dry vacuum.
Who manufactures the epoxy used in Nature Stone® floors and why is it better?
The epoxy is custom formulated by our own chemists especially for use in stone/epoxy flooring and is manufactured in-house at our Bedford, Ohio facility. Our Nature Stone® chemists also own and operate their own Nature Stone® franchises and have a vested interest in creating the best performing epoxy for all Nature Stone® applications.
Why is a protective top coating necessary?
When our installers slide a trowel over the top surface of Nature Stone® during the installation process it can result in reducing the amount of epoxy covering the stone at the top surface. It’s like skimming the epoxy off at the top. The protective top coat is specifically designed to restore and reinforce the integrity of the top surface, as well as provide additional protection from wearing, chemicals and Ultra Violet (UV) damage.
Can Nature Stone® be used to help redirect the flow of water?
No. Nature Stone® does not redirect the flow of water but is specially engineered to contain hydrostatic ports which allow any standing water below the Nature Stone® surface to evaporate naturally.
Note: Nature Stone® does not redirect the flow of water.
How much does Nature Stone® cost?
The cost of Nature Stone® flooring can depend on many variables such as: the current condition and required preparation of your existing concrete; the type of stone that you choose; the required stone-to-epoxy mix ratio; and the amount of stone material (thickness) needed to correct uneven concrete areas. The access to the flooring area, Nature Stone® patterns and designs and wrapping of faces or steps are also factors that can affect the pricing to properly and professionally install your floor.

To provide an accurate estimate it is critical to physically inspect the area. Nature Stone® estimates are free and at no obligation and there is no charge for a site inspection or consultation. Purchasing a longlasting Nature Stone® floor is not like buying a yard of carpet or tile off of a shelf. An on-site visit can uncover many opportunities to maximize the appearance and longevity of your Nature Stone® floor. Nature Stone® accepts all major credit cards and offers various fi nancing options for your convenience.
